The Canadian Wheat Board and the Conservative Attack on Collective Marketing PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 09 August 2006

CWBThe Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) is the marketing agency for over 75,000 farmers who grow wheat, durum wheat and barley in Western Canada. Through the mechanism of collective marketing, the CWB negotiates the best possible price both within Canada and around the world. This increases on the meager returns of many western Canadian grain farmers. It is controlled by farmers and supported by most farmers. But a few farmers have indicated they want to be able to market their grain independently -- and the Conservative government supports them. Don Kossick talks with Darrin Qualman of the National Farmers Union about the Canadian Wheat Board and its relationship to farmers in Western Canada.
